Christmas in India

Wednesday, December 24th, 2008

Hindu attackers have vowed to launch another widespread assault on Christians during Christmas. The violence began after Christians were blamed for the death of Hindu leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati on Aug. 24. They continue to be persecuted even though Maoists openly admitted to murdering Saraswati.

Hindus have offered money, food and alcohol to anyone who murders Christians and destroys their homes – especially pastors. Thousands of homes and churches have been destroyed, and Christians have been forced to flee the violence. Many have been doused with kerosene and torched after refusing to renounce their Christian faith.

Namrata Nayak, 10, was burned by the explosion of a bomb from Hindu extremists in August.

“There is so much pain and suffering, and I don’t know how long the special forces will protect us,” she told Asia News. “But Christmas is a time of gratitude. I am afraid that my people will still be attacked, but this is our life. If God has saved me, he can save other Christians too.” . . .

“[W]e forgive the Hindu radicals who attacked us, who burned our homes,” she told Asia News. “They were out of their minds, they do not know the love of Jesus. For this reason, I now want to study so that when I am older I can tell everyone how much Jesus loves us. This is my future.”

I’m glad someone asked this question.  I always wonder how they make decisions about Christmas and schooling and things like that.

Also check out John MacArthur’s sermon The Paradox of Christmas.

Dawkins vs Relativism

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Starting at 2:18

O’Reilly: I’m sticking with my Judeo-Christian philosophy and my religion of Roman Catholicism because it helps me as a person.
Dawkins: Ah, that’s different; if it helps you that’s great. But that doesn’t mean it’s true.
O’Reilly: Well it’s true for me.
Dawkins: You mean true for you is different from true for anybody else? Something’s got to be either true or not.

Wow.  When Dawkins is the voice of reason in a debate with a professing Christian, we’ve got problems.

MacArthur Opens the Vault

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

Today, John MacArthur released his massive archive of sermons for free download at Grace to You (previously they were sold at $3/sermon).  I’m glad MacArthur has joined the growing number of preachers to offer sermons for free online.

The internet is a crazy thing.  I think it’s one of the main tools driving the massive renewed interest in Reformed Christianity in America and around the world.  But it’s also one of the main tools driving the multi-billion dollar porn industry.

Praise God that now countless more hours of Christ-exalting preaching are available through John MacArthur’s ministry.

Mark Driscoll: Why I Love John Piper

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

…Especially noteworthy was the question from Jonathan McIntosh at The Journey Church in St. Louis, who asked what he would have to offer as final wisdom to young pastors. Piper buried his face in his hands to think and pray for a few minutes while the rest of us held our breath and waited. He then lifted his head and forcefully encouraged us to gouge out our eyes before looking at a woman lustfully (other than desiring our wives, of course) and chop off our hand before touching a woman other than our wife. Personally, I will never forget the time he told us about holding his stillborn grandchild around Christmastime as tears rolled down his face, describing how he prayed for God to resurrect the baby from death. As I looked around the room I saw dozens of young pastors, myself included, fighting back buckets of tears…

New Blog

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

I’ve been absent from the blogging world for quite some time, but now I’m back with a new blog that I’m really excited about and some new motivation to write.

One of my favorite parts about blogging in the past was having a place to share all the little clips I ran across on the internet, and I’ve always really loved that new-media aspect to blogging that the brothers (and apparently now sisters!) at RecoverTheGospel have always had.  So that’s my introduction to one of the best clips I’ve seen in the past few months.  I know watching song lyrics can be boring, but this video more than makes up for it with the Piper clip that’s used in the middle.

PS: I know my header looks like a DG rip-off, but that’s because it is. I’m like a mockingbird. I’ve got no new song to sing.
